Strasbourg Eurometropolis is the local authority for the Strasbourg metropolitan area in France close to Germany, which has 33 municipalities and around 500.000 inhabitants over an area of 340 kmĀ². After adopting its adaptation strategy in 2019, Strasbourg Eurometropolis signed a statement on climate urgency in 2020 to reaffirm the necessity of taking actions towards carbon neutrality and climate adaptation. In its strategy, the metropolis focuses on the risks it is most vulnerable to heatwaves, air pollution, invasive species, floods, mudslides and water management. Sustainable urban planning actions are also being implemented, to address heat islands through greening projects.
