Case Description

The 3 territories have similar sizes and positive economic dynamics. The main vulnerability factors are a very high old age index and a high density of urban settlements. They suffer river and urban flooding, temperature increases, and droughts generating air pollution events (Ozone) and impacts on natural and agricultural areas. All adopted SECAP and Resilience Strategies (STC) and signed political engagement as Covenant of mayors, NetZeroCity (Bergamo), and Mission Adaptation Charter (Cesano Maderno, Brianza municipality). Region Lombardi has an Adaptation Strategy and provides funds. The 3 territories are implementing STC-Strategies that focus on: mainstream adaptation in urban planning tools , funds raising, climate monitoring, capacity building, climate desk for citizens, community engagement, and institutional networking. Fondazione Cariplo has provided this common Strategy structure, a philanthropic institution that, together with funds for STC implementation, offers technical assistance and mobilises regional and EU funds. The preliminary analysis put in evidence limited internal resources to process all the activities and projects that could be financed through grants, and to take part in a call, ready projects for interventions are required with a level of detail not available (economic feasibility, costs, technical design, impacts and benefits).
